Platelet-Rich Plasma  (PRP) is a non-surgical, safe and effective treatment for hair loss including Androgenic Alopecia, Alopecia Areata and Telogen Effluvium.

What happens...?

PRP sessions begin with blood being drawn from the patient, vial being inserted into a centrifuge to separate the patients blood into plasma ('the yellow part') and erythrocytes ('the red part'), separated by a thin buffy coat. Platelet-Rich Plasma is abundant in many  Growth Factors (GF) - PGDF, VEGF, FGF, EGF and TGF-B which all play crucial parts for cell growth. Highland Trichology are particularly interested in specifically exceptional GF necessary for hair regrowth and healthy hair, being Epilthelial Growth Factor (EGF) and Transformative Growth Factor -Beta (TGF-B), for the promotion and growth of epithelial cells, angiogenesis, promotion of wound healing, growth and neogenesis of epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells and the promotion of wound healing. Hair restoration begins here! Plasma is then drawn and injected into relevant areas of the scalp in our specialist protocol with nappage where appropriate. Alternatively, during a PRP microneedling session your practitioner will use a dermapen or dermaroller on scalp alongside a small slip of plasma per area to maintain glide and repeat until are has been fully treated.

Does it hurt?

A common question with a simple answer - it varies person to person with mild or occasionally moderate pain. Highland Trichology uses a specialist energy bar and optional Lidocaine (with medical questionnaire) for gentle topical numbing. Your practitioner is a trained professional and will be guided by your comfort throughout the session.

How often do I need treatments - routine PRP and hair transplants?

Highland Trichology recommends an initial treatment plan of 1 session per month (4 weeks)  for 3 consecutive months. Thereafter 1 session per 3 months for 3 quarters, i.e. over 9 months. A total of 6 sessions in a 12 month period. Patient's should begin to see results after 2-3 treatments.

If you are thinking about having a Hair Transplant we would recommend having PRP at least once no sooner than 4 weeks prior to your procedure. Then optimally 4 sessions post-surgery for the best recovery and success of your new hair. Each session should be a at least 4 weeks apart  beginning no sooner than 4-6 weeks post procedure. In these initial 4 weeks we recommend the use of our sterile, organic Pharma Hermetic HRP Lotion Spray and our clinically backed laser helmet to reduce inflammation, help hair root and reduce shedding in this time. Maintenance sessions can be booked quarterly for a further 6 months which then reduce to twice per year for sustained hair health and optimum results.
